Emerald Express

Sleeps Five

Extra! Extra! Read all about it! Welcome to the latest arrival at Railway Retreats, our ‘Emerald Express’ newspaper van, which was one of many used in the South of England to deliver the news each day hot off the press from Fleet Street.

Built just before the Second World War by the Southern Railway, each night these trains would leave London Victoria, Waterloo or London Bridge for the south coast full of the day’s news, until the mid-1980s when vans and lorries took over the job instead. After a painstaking restoration, and with panoramic views, it’s now ready to work the night shift again for your staycation.

Emerald Express caters for up to five guests. It has one double bedroom, one bedroom with a double bed and a single bunk above, a family shower room, a full kitchen with induction hob, oven and fridge freezer and an open plan lounge and dining area with a Smart TV. You’ll get the best view of the Kent & East Sussex Railway Line from the elevated balcony.

Gas central heating will keep you nice and warm in the winter months.

A travel cot and a high chair can also be provided for the little ones.

Allocated parking for up to two cars is available directly outside.
